A BROKEN jar, dirty leather belt and a ceramic lion jelly mould are among the historical items set to be rejected by Bolton Museum.

Archivists at the museum have created a list of more than 60 artefacts that they have decided are no longer of educational value, and can be dumped.

Other items include 40 gramophone records with no connection to Bolton, a brush with cotton fluff between the bristles and numerous parts of textile machines.

In a report to councillors, officers say all the items will first be listed on the Museum Associations website, whether other cultural institutions can request the objects. They can also be gifted directly to other institutions — or sent to the scrap heap.

In August 2013 the Museum service left its old storage premises at Lincoln Mill and created The Chadwick Resource Centre, transferring more than 40,000 objects and re-assessing part of the collections which are particularly bulky or have degraded.
