ENERGETIC eight-piece band Police Dog Hogan will play a gig in Bury tonight (THURSDAY).

The group will present third album, Westward Ho!, which was released last month, at The Met, Market Street, at 8pm.

Police Dog Hogan combines fiddle, banjo, mandolin, drums and guitars with knock-out four-part harmonies and a mash-up of country, pop, folk and rocking urban bluegrass.

Featuring Guardian columnist Tim Dowling on banjo and vocals, the band’s literate songs veer from the wistful and poetic to flat-out, foot-stomping tales of doomed barbecues and French mustard.

Founded in 2009, the band is now gigging in earnest, buoyed by rapturous receptions at clubs, pubs, theatres and summer festivals, including playing the main stage at Kendal Calling in August this year.

Tickets to see Police Dog Hogan are £14. For more information or to book, phone 0161 761 2216 or visits themet.biz .
