FRUSTRATED motorists are still facing lengthy delays through Stoneclough and Ringley as work is carried out to reinforce underground cables.

Engineers from Electricity North West are working in Market Street Stoneclough, as part of a £420,000 project to reinforce the local power network.

The work, which started on December 9, and has seen temporary traffic lights put in place, is scheduled to run until the middle or end of January and will also affect Stoneclough Road.

Electricity North West is putting 3km of new underground electricity cables in place which are more reliable and easier to repair in case of a fault.

No work will be carried out for two weeks from tomorrow over the Christmas period.

A spokesman for Electricity North West said: “Ensuring our customers receive a reliable and efficient power supply now and for many years to come is our top priority.”
