AN up-and-coming boy band sent shockwaves through the airwaves when they performed a live acoustic set on a Bolton radio station.

The Sparks appeared on Bolton FM with presenter Lucy Robinson for her afternoon show.

The band — formerly The Rascels — announced their name change, live on air, on Friday's afternoon show.

The four-piece, from Nottingham, said they felt it was the right time to change their name, for brand and image.

They added: "We are still very much a boy band, just with a bit more edge".

The rock/pop band is made up of James Hughes, aged 19, on vocals and guitar, Ryan Lampon, aged 18, on drums, with brothers 19-year-old Charlie and Ollie Hayes, aged 18, on vocals and guitars.

The pals performed two of their tracks, My Summertime and Kiss Me Like You Mean It.

They are currently working on their debut album, with a scheduled single release in the summer, and are looking forward to kicking off their UK school tour in Bolton in March.

The Sparks will also appear at The Railway Venue, Bromley Cross, on June 20.
