THE closure of a second bridge next month could signal traffic chaos.

Grimeford Lane, near Adlington, will be shut from March 3 for more than three months, until June 12, while Network Rail carries out bridge repairs.

Station Road in Blackrod closed on February 2 for similar works and is expected to remain closed for 15 weeks until May 15.

Councillors from Horwich and Blackrod previously appealed to Network Rail to not close both roads at the same time as it will have a huge effect on local residents.

A number of bridges in the region which are too low for erecting power lines underneath need to be demolished and rebuilt.

This is so Network Rail can install new overhead lines as it works to electrify rail lines in the region.

Orlando Street in Bolton town centre is set to be closed for the same reason between April 10 and December 17.

Diversion routes are signposted. To make an enquiry about the closures: call 08457 11 41 41.
