A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after suffering numerous bites caused by a neighbour’s dog in Accrington.
The woman, in her 60s, was attacked by the boxer mastiff cross in Marsden Street while walking her own dog at around 2.30pm today.
The dog is expected to be put down with the permission of its owners.
Lancashire police said the injured woman had suffered bites to all four limbs, with some incisions going as deep as her bones.
Duty Inspector Conrad Tapp said: “It appears this lady’s neighbours have been our repairing or cleaning a fence and they thought the dog was locked away. It wasn’t.
“The woman was laid on the floor at one point with numerous bites. Our patrols attended and took custody of the dog in the back of a van.
“It has been taken to Aspen Valley Boarding Kennels and Cattery in Oswaldwistle and I believe its owners have relinquished it and it will be put down.”
The woman was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
