CHILDREN were delighted to learn about the work of guide dogs.

The youngest pupils at St James (Daisy Hill) CE School in Hindley Road, Westhoughton, welcomed Toni Forrest and her guide dog Quilla into the classroom.

Reception teacher Deborah Abbott said: "Earlier in the half term we were doing a topic on People Who Help Us and one of the things we look at is guide dogs but at the time Toni couldn't come in so she came in last week to see us.

"The children were finding out what guide dogs can do for blind people."

Youngsters from the Reception classes, aged 4 and 5, got to stroke the dog after Toni removed the harness during the visit on Wednesday last week. (Nov 25)

Ms Abbott said: "Toni goes into schools and talks about the training the dogs have and the work they do.

"The children absolutely loved it."
