A PLAN to create a new laser quest attraction has met with a cautious welcome by town councillors.
Environmental Renaissance has applied to change the use of a unit at Westhoughton Industrial Estate from warehouse and offices to leisure and assembly.
The firm’s proposals for the James Street site were recommended for approval at this week’s meeting of Westhoughton Town Council.
Cllr David Wilkinson, Liberal Democrat member for Hoskers and Hart Common, said he had some concerns over parking inside the site.
He said: “I share the highway officer’s concerns that something with this floor space should be rights have 50-plus car parking spaces.
“I believe it will be quite popular and quite busy.
“They could run out of space to let everyone in and that could impact on other industrial uses within the site.
“We have new buildings in the corner of the site and I would not like to see something impact on what I would class as ‘real jobs’ where people are being paid good money in engineering and other types of employment because it lacks car parking.”
The application was recommended with approval but with the concerns over parking to be noted by Bolton Council’s planning committee.
