LUCKY Wanderers salvaged a point with the last kick of the game after looking for more than 90 minutes like sliding to their first defeat under Dougie Freedman.

David Ngog slid in after six minutes of added time – one more than had been allotted – to cancel out Bruno's earlier effort.

Up to that point Brighton had dominated a one-sided game and could easily have secured victory much, much earlier.

To call the first half one-sided would be under-estimating it in the extreme.

Brighton hit the woodwork no fewer than three times and saw a penalty saved brilliantly by Adam Bogdan as Wanderers simply clung on for dear life.

Just 13 minutes in, Darren Pratley was adjudged by referee Mark Haywood to have handballed after sliding in on Craig Mackail-Smith's cross.

Ashley Barnes took the penalty but Bogdan saved well low to his left before scrambling to block another effort from closer in.

Moments later, Brighton saw two shots bounce off the woodwork within 20 seconds.

First, Andrea Orlandi curled a shot on to Bogdan's left-hand post with the keeper well beaten then Dean Hammond clipped a shot from the edge of the box that rebounded off the opposite upright.

Mackail-Smith then got in on the act, thudding a 32nd minute header against the crossbar from Orlandi's cross.

Each time the ball went into the Wanderers box panic seemed to ensure, and it was a minor miracle that the sides went in level at the break.

With time to reorganise, the 1,000 travelling fans must have been hoping for more.

On balance of play, they couldn't complain when they eventually went behind eight minutes after the restart. But Dougie Freedman was annoyed that referee Haywood had over-ruled his linesman who had spotted a handball before a free-kick was swung in for full-back Bruno to power home with aplomb from the edge of the box.

Even that failed to muster an immediate response.

Mackail-Smith and Ashley Barnes both should have done better from close range, and Bogdan had to be at his best to parry a stinging effort from Orlandi.

With 20 minutes to go, and after Kevin Davies and Jacob Butterfield had been thrown on for Pratley and Benik Afobe, Wanderers did start to create a few opportunities.

Mark Davies forced Tomasz Kuzsczak into action for the first time with a low shot and then Butterfield had the former United keeper scampering back with a decent effort from distance.

It proved only a brief resurgence, however, and Brighton should have managed to cruise out of the rest of the game without major incident.

A late penalty claim by Kevin Davies was possibly more in hope than expectation and when Bogdan denied sub Will Hoskins with another brilliant stop, the game looked dead and buried.

But with the last throw of the dice, Ngog turned home a cross from the left to send their fans into raptures.

It was the ultimate smash and grab.
