DOUGIE Freedman faces a big decision on Chris Eagles heading into this weekend’s clash with in-form Nottingham Forest.

An ankle injury ruled the winger out of the 1-1 draw with Reading at the Reebok but after having a protective boot removed he is now free to resume training.

Wanderers’ medical staff have given Eagles an extra few days in the cast to give him the maximum chance of facing Billy Davies’s side but Freedman hinted on Monday that he may err on the side of caution to keep the former Manchester United man fresh for the following weekend’s home game against QPR.

How he fares in training over the next 48 hours will be crucial but with Andre Moritz still a few weeks away from being able to start a game, Freedman could find himself without a proven playmaker for the trip to the City Ground.

Hard-working Chung-Yong Lee and Darren Pratley filled the wide berths against the Royals and their defensive qualities could well be an asset against a team with genuine wide threats.

But having scored a solitary goal in each of their Championship games so far, Freedman reckons there is scope for improvement in his team in an attacking sense.

The Whites boss admitted after the Reading draw that striker Jermaine Beckford had looked frustrated and that he “didn’t get the service that his movement deserved.”

That could strengthen the case for Eagles’ inclusion, given that he has topped the Wanderers’ assist tables for the last two seasons by some distance.

Forest have started the season in fine style and are one of only three teams to have won their first two games, alongside Blackpool and Watford.

Wanderers have history on their side, though, with their last defeat against Forest coming 18 years ago.
