Dougie Freedman ready to give Marvin Sordell second loan switch

The Bolton News: Marvin Sordell could be going out to another club on loan Marvin Sordell could be going out to another club on loan

DOUGIE Freedman has offered to end Marvin Sordell’s Charlton frustration by sending him out on loan to a second club.

The Wanderers boss has talked with the former England Under-21 striker about his lack of game time at The Valley and admits it may be an option to bring him back temporarily to the Reebok next month.

Sordell will not be eligible to play for Charlton this afternoon and had not featured for the Addicks since October 19.

But rather than see his striker kicking his heels in South London, Freedman says he would be open to sending him out elsewhere if an offer came in.

“I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he’s a little bit frustrated that he’s not in their team,” the manager said.

“If that option became available then I’d certainly consider it.

“Marvin needs to play. He’s at Charlton now and if someone came back in for him now then I’d have a look at it – I’m sure Marvin would too.

“But there hasn’t been anything just yet.”

Despite featuring regularly in the second half of last season for Wanderers, Sordell was shipped out on loan at the start of the current campaign to make way in the playing budget for Andre Moritz.

Freedman does think that the 22-year-old could contribute regular goals at Championship level but feels his failure to settle at Wanderers since arriving in a big money deal nearly two years ago has affected his confidence.

“He came to the club and never played, never got a run,” he said. “That was hard on him.

“I gave him one or two games but he didn’t show on a regular basis what I thought he showed at Watford.

“I’ve told him he’s got to work at it because he is only young.

“And it’s a huge plus for us that he doesn’t play because he genuinely has got goals in him.”
