BOLTON’S world BDO darts champion Lisa Ashton narrowly missed out on adding the Daily Mirror World Trophy to her list of titles after losing 9-7 to Anastasia Dobromyslova in Sunday’s final.

Ashton had beaten the Russian in the semi-finals on the way to her world crown, but fell just short at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool Tower.

She came from behind to take the match into a tie-break, but was eventually broken by Dobromyslova, who claimed victory with a double top.

The 43-year-old, who lives in Johnson Fold, said: "I’m a bit gutted.

“It was a close game, I said it would be a close game.

“It just came down to who got the double at the end. You get a bit disappointed, but it's a case of heads up now and on to the next tournament.

“The support has been absolutely amazing, I’ve got friends and family here.

"I think the whole of Lancashire has been supporting me.”

Ashton had marched into the final with a resounding 6-1 victory over rising teenage star Fallon Sherrock in the semi-finals.

Her next professional match will be at the Isle of Man International Festival of Darts in March.
