ZAT Knight is ruling nothing out for the rest of the season if Wanderers can remain in their groove at Derby tonight.

After three straight wins, Dougie Freedman’s side have started to claw back some ground on mid-table but risen just two places into 17th.

Victory at Pride Park could potentially lift them another two positions – and while many fans are now seeking consolidation in the remaining 12 games, Knight has aspirations slightly higher than that.

“I don’t think the pressure is off us at all,” he said. “I said a few weeks ago that our main aim is to finish in the top half but you never really know – if we keep winning and teams keep losing, who knows?

“It’s a far reach but I’ve learned never to say never in football. If we beat Derby we’ll be closer to mid table and then kick on from there.”

The mood in the camp is decidedly more upbeat than it was at the start of the year, when the talk was more about avoiding a relegation battle.

Derby are aiming at automatic promotion, although they lost ground on Burnley at the weekend when they suffered a home defeat to Millwall and the Clarets won their derby duel at Blackburn.

The Pride Park clash has the potential to be a serious test of Wanderers’ improvement, and Knight is urging the squad to keep focus.

“We are playing better and looking forward to the game but I don’t want to get carried away,” he said.

“If we treat every game like a cup final then I’ve told the lads, you never know what might happen.

“A lot of the top clubs lost at the weekend so if we beat Derby, it brings us a little bit closer to them.”
