NOT a single ball was bowled in the Bolton League on Saturday as torrential rain decimated the programme.

All seven games - Farnworth v Egerton, Farnworth Social Circle v Eagley, Greenmount v Bradshaw, Heaton v Astley Bridge, Horwich v Walkden, Kearsley v Tonge and Westhoughton v Little Lever - were abandoned early in the afternoon.

It means it is as you were in the table with Social Circle still at the summit, six points ahead of neighbours Farnworth having won all five matches they have played so far.

Social Circle opener David Tonge was naturally frustrated not to add to that fine run against winless Eagley this weekend but accepts nothing can be done when Mother Nature intervenes.

Tonge told The Bolton News: "It was disappointing because we have started really well and were looking to continue that against an Eagley side who hav had a tough start and are down the bottom.

"But there is not much you cn do when there is rain like there was on Saturday and every team was in the same situation.

"The game will be rearranged for later in the season so it is not like we have lost out on any points."

Tonge and his team-mates must now wait until Saturday's trip to Egerton to extend their winning run.

And he hopes they will make it six consecutive league wins.

He added: "We have had a good start and everyone is pleased.

"I think the key is the team spirit we have with everyone playing a part.

"We do not rely on the professional, or one player - everyone works for each other and long may it continue."
