TEENAGE cricketer Josh Bohannon had two reasons to celebrate yesterday after being named the Bolton League’s batsman of the month and captain of its Under-18s side.

At the age of just 17, the Farnworth Social Circle all-rounder beat two of his more senior team-mates – Tim Rees and Dave Tonge – to the batting prize for April and May.

The former Harper Green pupil recorded the best stats for the period, hitting 267 runs in six innings – including an unbeaten 107 – at an average of 44.5.

Horwich seamer Adam Street earned the bowling prize, beating off fellow contenders Sabah Ghause (Kearsley) and Dave Mather (FSC) with figures of 23 wickets for 351 runs in 102 overs, including 19 maidens, at an average of 15.26.

Bohannon’s good form also saw him hold on to the captaincy of the Bolton League U18s for their inter-league match on Sunday against the Lancashire County League at Stretford.

Full Bolton League U18s squad: Josh Bohannon (FSC), Bradley Yates (Bradshaw), Jay Chhana (FSC), Chris Brownlow (Horwich), Jake O’Byrne (Eagley), Ross Sutton (Heaton), Chris Lane (FSC), Callum Rushmore (FSC) Matthew Fanning (Westhoughton), Jack Scott (Kearsley), Joe Ducker (Heaton).
