IT could be a quiz question locally in years to come where did you get the Braves, Beasts and Blasters playing together? The answer is the inaugral Bradshaw CC Under-11s tournament at the weekend.
The Blasters won the tournament defeating Blackrod Reds by 15 runs.
Organiser Andy Needham said: “It was a great event and everyone really enjoyed it.
“We lost a bit of time to the rain so we held the group stages and then proceeded to the final.
“It was our inaugral competition and perhaps in hindsight we should have allowed more time for it.
“The good thing was every team won a game each.
“Lewis King batted and bowled well while Cian Dickinson impressed too.
“We had two u9s competing – Oliver Corris and Matty Hilton produced good performances.
“There were other great displays by Jacob Stevenson and Matty Flatters who took hat-tricks in group stages.
“One of the success stories was Blackrod’s William Ashworth who was only six.
“There was lots of runs scored, quite a few wickets and catches taken and the standard of cricket was really high.
“I thought that there was a lot of great talent coming through the ranks. “We had quite a lot of families and supporters down to watch.
“There were quite a few district players in action and hopefully they will be playing senior cricket at higher levels.
“It was so successful we want to run more events in years to come.”
The organisers have also praised the conditions at Bradshaw.
Needham added: “The pitch was great and it made for great cricket both batting and bowling.
“Another positive is all of the games were umpired by our u13 and u15 players and it was great for them trying to get experience of doing matches.”
The Blasters team that won the tournament included: Cian Dickinson, Luke Needham, Daisy Mullen, Luke Davenport, Lewis King, Matty Hilton and Olly Corris.
