12:52am

That's all folks - back again tomorrow.

12:52am

12:51am

The Wigan man drives low from the edge of the box after Ryan had made a good save from Pinnila.

12:49am

Beausejour scores for Chile

12:48am

Four mins added time for Australia to level the game

12:43am

Aranguiz booked

12:36am

That Chile coach has got some glare on him...

12:34am

12:33am

No reflection on the football - it's just way past my bedtime!

12:32am

I am going to need a lot more caffine to stay awake during these night games...

12:28am

Cahill heads on to the roof of the net. Great cross from Wilkinson again.

12:26am

66 - 34 per cent possession but Aussies generally looking more incisive when they have the ball.

12:25am

Milligan booked

12:23am

12:19am

Bresciano drills a shot wide at the other end. Really open game.

12:19am

Wilkinson clears off the line from Sanchez.

12:15am

Jedinak booked

12:14am

Aussies really pushing hard for the equaliser.

12:14am

Bresciano brings a magnificent double save out of Bravo.

12:10am

Cahill has an equaliser ruled out. Just offside.

12:08am

Cahill goes close with another header. Ex-Everton man also thought he was fouled by Jara.

12:03am

Still think Chile will win this comfrtably.

12:03am

11:47pm

11:44pm

Not 100 per cent what for...

11:43pm

Cahill booked

11:39pm

11:39pm

11:39pm

11:38pm

11:38pm

Is anyone better at that kind of standing jump than Cahill?

11:36pm

11:35pm

Who else but Tim Cahill? Leapt like the proverbial to head home Franjic's cross. How good is he at that??

11:34pm

Australia goal!

11:33pm

I like the look of the Chile left-back Mena - looks a decent player.

11:32pm

Chile, as many predicted, looking very comfortable on the ball. Spain will be having nightmares tonight after that showing against Holland.

11:24pm

Potential headline... Chile Con Carnage?

11:19pm

Orr blasts one from distance. Wide, but more progressive from Australia.

11:15pm

11:14pm

Two in two minutes for the Chileans. Could be game over already.

11:14pm

Vargas slices through Australia's defence, lays off for Valdivia and his finish is superb from the edge of the box.

11:13pm

Goal Chile

11:12pm

Varga causes all sorts of problems for Australia, who can't clear their lines and the ball falls for Alexis Sanchez. Easy goal.

11:11pm

Goal Chile

11:05pm

Nothing doing so far. Aussies look a bit hesitant at the back but look like they have a bit of pace on the wings.

11:00pm

10:58pm

10:54pm

10:53pm

10:53pm

10:53pm

10:53pm

10:52pm

Here we go again for round three - score predictions coming up...

9:52pm

9:51pm

It's all over. Spanish inquisition starts here...

9:48pm

Torres misses an absolute gift.

9:48pm

Wijnald gets round the back of Spain again, cuts back for Robben but he loses his balance.

9:44pm

Wijnald and Robben both bring good saves out of Casillas. That could have been six. Unbelievable.

9:43pm

So as I said at the start of the blog, I think this will be a tight game...

9:39pm

9:38pm

Robben races on to a long ball, beats Ramos easily and then takes it round Casillas and slams the ball into the net. Amazing.

9:37pm

Oh my word, it's five!

9:32pm

9:30pm

Massive mistake from Casillas - terrible touch that let in Van Persie and he stabbed it into an empty net. Wretched night for Spain.

9:29pm

It's four!

9:26pm

Casillas makes a save from Van Persie with his feet - could have been four!

9:25pm

I think there have now been more disallowed goals in this tournament than legal ones.

9:25pm

Spain have a goal ruled out for offside. Couple of great blocks in there from the Dutch but Silva poked the ball over the line after the keeper's save - only to see his effort chalked out.

9:23pm

Casillas and Van Persie

9:23pm

De Vrij bundled the ball over the line at the far post from Sniejder's free-kick. Casillas complaining that there was a push - but unlike the referee last night (Brazil v Croatia) the right choice was made.

9:21pm

GOAL Holland

9:18pm

Van Persie hits the bar after a lovely move. Left to right, it ended with the United striker blasting a volley from the angle.

9:17pm

Spain ready to bring a couple of front men on.

9:11pm

Robben bamboozled Pique and Ramos - Spain definitely off the boil.

9:10pm

Holland slice straight through and Robben beats one man before drilling a shot past Casillas

9:09pm

Haven't quite got that air or invincibility.

9:08pm

Spain not as conscise in possession as they used to be. Changed style a little from the glory days.

9:07pm

Iniesta drags a shot along the ground from distance. First meaningful effort of the second half.

9:03pm

8:47pm

Well - there have been moments of genius in that half. Intruigingly poised.

8:46pm

8:44pm

Superb pass from Blind - and Van Persie times his header perfectly. Absolute class.

8:44pm

What a goal for Holand!

8:44pm

Mark Lawrenson in especially grumpy mood today. I can only assume someone has made a remark about his shirt...

8:43pm

Silva denied by Cillessen - tried to chip the keeper but he got his hands in the way. Great pass by Iniesta.

8:41pm

There have been 1,967 offsides in this World Cup already*

*estimated

8:41pm

De Vrij booked for a foul on Silva.

8:39pm

They do love their little emotional montages these foreign TV directors...

8:35pm

Dutch starting to get themselves together now. De Jong tries his luck but saved by Casillas.

8:33pm

8:27pm

He scores - low to the keeper's right. Excellent pen.

8:27pm

Xabi Alonso to take

8:26pm

De Vrij fouls Costa - looked a certain pen to me.

8:26pm

Penalty to Spain

8:25pm

De Guizman gets a yellow for a foul on Iniesta

8:25pm

Can't help but feel we're seeing Holland and Spain Lite here. Neither side at their swaggering best.

8:20pm

Silva spurns a chance to shoot and Holland manage to clear - decent chance for Spain.

8:18pm

Silva plays Costa through - but his sliced shot goes high and wide. All been a bit vanilla so far.

8:17pm

8:10pm

No movement on Jutkiewicz - just another club involved. And McCormack will cost several million - have you got that, because I don't think Wanderers have!

8:10pm

8:08pm

Schnieder misses a golden chance - clean through, his shot is aimed straight at Casillas, who beats the ball away.

8:05pm

8:04pm

Steve Wilson and Mark Lawrenson on commentary duty for the Beeb. Like Wilson - my favourite commentator.

8:03pm

8:00pm

8:00pm

7:59pm

7:59pm

7:58pm

Quick round of score predictions - I'm going for a tight victory for the Spanish. 2-1.

7:56pm

Time for round two - Spain against Holland!

6:56pm

All over - Mexico deserved that. Should have been more. Will be back later with Spain v Holland.

6:53pm

Hernandez misses an easy chance to make it two. Completely unmarked.

6:52pm

Moukandjo gets a free header and brings a springing save out of Ochoa in the Mexican goal. Nearly stole a point.

6:51pm

6:48pm

"Wholly unitentional, hasn't made himself bigger in any way, arms were perpendicular to the body" -  Clarke Carlisle sums up something that isn't a handball (I think).

6:43pm

Nounkeu makes a vital challenge after some great work by Hernandez. Would have been 2-0.

6:38pm

That invisible spray looks foamier tonight. Could be fake snow.

6:38pm

N'Koulou gets a yellow - very nearly a penalty

6:37pm

Not sure Cameroon have got the guile to get back into this. All gone a bit scrappy - and that'll suit Mexico nicely.

6:32pm

Chicharito coming on for Mexico.

6:26pm

Cameroon have got to take some initiative now. Can't sit back with six defenders now.

6:22pm

Peralta finally breaks the deadlock. Itanje makes a save from Dos Santos first off but the ball comes out for the striker and he tucks it away.

6:22pm

GOAL MEXICO!

6:21pm

6:19pm

Assou-Ekotto's free kick deflects off the wall and whizzes just wide. Keeper had no chance.

6:18pm

Finally a yellow - Moreno for Mexico. A mild challenge compared to what has gone before. Free kick in a decent area for Cameroon.

6:16pm

No yellow cards - but challenges continue to err on the meaty side.

6:13pm

Choupo Moting has half a chance for Cameroon from an acute angle. Straight at the keeper.

6:11pm

Nothing new on Juke - Wolves and Blackburn also looking at him. Might be a case of who blinks first.

6:09pm

More flat defending from Cameroon. They have loads of men back there but no-one seems capable of making a tackle.

6:09pm

Itandje makes a great save from Peralta with his legs.

6:08pm

Cameroon have to travel 10,000 miles for their three group games. Ouch.

6:06pm

5:48pm

5:48pm

5:44pm

Mexico boss getting a warning from the referee. He's going loco...

5:42pm

Peralta gets beyond the Cameroon back six but the ball just beats him. Surely only a matter of time before a Mexico goal is allowed to stand.

5:41pm

Mbia splats Guardardo - looked a yellow card but strangely none given.

5:39pm

5:38pm

Always amazes me how quickly football crowds adopt national stereotypes. Hundreds of Sombreros in the Mexico fans there...

5:34pm

Dos Santos goal disallowed for offside despite final touch clearly coming off a Cameroon defender.

5:31pm

Mexico have another goal ruled offside. Dos Santos again. And ANOTHER bad decision.

5:30pm

That is some serious rain coming down. The pitch not showing any signs of wear and tear so far, though.

5:29pm

Guardado swings a great cross in - Mbia plays everyone onside - and Marquez takes a header off Aguillar. Massive chance but terrible defending by Cameroon.

5:27pm

Some uncomprimising challenges coming in from Cameroon - takes me back to Italia 90.

5:22pm

Eto'o goes mightily close for Cameroon, blasts Assou-Ekotto's cross just wide.

5:22pm

Mexico boss looks a bit like a Latino Steve Evans.

5:20pm

Officials are very whistle happy so far. Few borderline fouls have been given against Cameroon.

5:18pm

I think "think" Clarke Carlisle might have watched the Bosnia v Mexico friendly. He has referenced it seven times already...

5:17pm

Now Cameroon have the ball in the net - another offside but definitely no-goal this time.

5:13pm

Replays showed Dos Santos onside when Herrera swung the cross in. Another poor official's decision!

5:12pm

Dos Santos has a goal ruled out for offside - very tight.

5:12pm

Apologies for the late start to the blog - a few technical issues

5:11pm

5:01pm

4:55pm

Sam Matterface and Clarke Carlisle doing the ITV commentary.

4:38pm

After Vieira was branded "Pat" last night, Hoddle now calling Chiles "Adie" - wonder what "Gordy" Strachan will make of that?

4:36pm

I'll take that as a 2-0 Paul!

4:20pm

Mexico have never beaten African opposition in three attempts at the World Cup.

4:18pm

4:04pm

Mexico: Ochoa; P.Aguilar, 'Maza', Rafa, H.Moreno, Layún; H.Herrera, Vazquez, Guardado; Oribe, Giovani dos Santos.

4:03pm

Cameroon: Itandje, Djeugoue, Chedjou, Nkolou, Assou-Ekotto; Song, Mbia, Enoh; Moukandjo, Eto'o, Choupo-Moting.

3:57pm

3:56pm

3:55pm

I'll be looking at some of your score predictions for Mexico v Cameroon soon.

Quite fancy the Mexicans to edge it, so I'm going for 2-1.

2:36pm

Wanderers media man Dan Houlker on Twitter there - probably not hinting at a new signing. It appears the new Macron kits have arrived.

2:35pm

2:31pm

Just finished a couple of pieces for tomorrow's paper - look out for articles with Gary Cahill and Roger Hunt, and my own World Cup column.

1:43pm

1:37pm

I'm going to have to be careful - typing Reebok has become second nature to me. Expect a few typos in the first few weeks!

It's always the danger when a sponsor's name is attached to a ground as soon as it is build, I suppose. In time it will become known as the Macron but it's bound to look strange at first.

Incidentally, Macron is an anagram of "Marc No" - but I'm not taking it personally.

1:35pm

An email from Rachel Jones next, which reads:

"What do you think about changing the stadium's name? For me it will always be called the Reebok Stadium and I cant think of calling it anything else."

1:32pm

That's a very good question Stephen, and one I'd like to answer in 15 parts...

1:32pm

Stephen Golding asks

"How do you manage to write all day when absolutely nowt is going on?"

1:31pm

I've got a couple more emails to get through, and then I'll answer any straggling questions from Twitter/comments as we go through the afternoon.

1:26pm

I dearly hope so. Kellett didn't let anyone down, nor did Oscar Threlkeld.

I'm looking forward to seeing if Joe Riley can force his way back in after so long out injured and whether Josh Vela has returned a more matured midfielder after his spell with Notts County.

1:25pm

1:16pm Fri 13 Jun 14

J J J J says

Do you think any of the younger players will play next season or could it be that they go out on loan, liked the look of Kellet.... A place for him next season?

1:24pm

I know Lukas wants to come back to Bolton, so that should give us a bit more time (if he is also willing to wait) but what strikes me is that Dougie could be going into the pre-season friendlies with Jermaine Beckford and a handful of strikers whose futures probably lie elsewhere. I can't see that being good for the team.

Timing is everything and Wanderers got battered last transfer deadline day when they didn't sign anyone - so perhaps on this occasion, they are timing it right? Who knows?

1:22pm

Emailed question from Ben Reardon (I'll email you back later with the rest)...

"With Wolves sniffing around and the fact that they can stump up the funds financially, do you think that Jutkiewicz seems more unlikely as the weeks go by, or can we pull off a deal due to the fact that the player himself wants to join Bolton?"

1:20pm

There's no doubt the defence looks more reliable than it did when the club first dropped into the Championship.

I still think last season's injury problems caused it to look unsettled at times. But if Dougie can keep his players out of the treatment room this season, I think he's got that side of things sorted.

As for the goalscoring... that's a different matter...

1:18pm

1:18pm

The last number verified by the club was just over 9,000 - but it's messy comparing them with last season, or previous ones, because the figures tend to me massaged in all sorts of ways.

I remember when the Direct Debit thing came out, the club were saying that the uptake of tickets was 15 per cent higher than it had been 12 months earlier, but the average crowd that season was almost exactly the same.

Success will make sure the crowds stay healthy and I think history shows that Bolton's average attendance is around the 12-15,000 mark at this level doesn't it?

1:15pm

Email question from James Illingworth...

"How are the season tickets sales going and do you think the crowds will drop next season"

1:08pm

In my view, Wanderers won't get promotion unless they get another couple of decent options up front.

I also think Dougie Freedman needs a recognised left-back as competition for Marc Tierney because the team lost too much (possession wise) playing Ream out wide last season.

Another winger maybe - and then I think top six is achievable, otherwise I'm not so sure.

1:05pm

12:34pm Fri 13 Jun 14

J J J J says

promotion, a realistic target this season or does it depend on transfers from now till the start of the summer?

1:05pm

It didn't go well for Tom last year when he went back to Shrewsbury, did it?

I hope he can come back and start pre-season well because there is something about him - but I can forsee more time out on loan.

Davies wants to be playing first team football and I don't think Freedman can offer him that. Preston seem to have gone cold on the prospect of signing him, so in my opinion, he's another one open to offers.

1:03pm

Second part of Andrew Hatfield's earlier email reads...

"Is there a BWFC future for Eaves and C. Davies?"

1:03pm

Genuinely don't know. I'm told everyone has shaken hands on it but the paperwork needs to be sorted when he gets back, so I'd guess the start of July?

1:02pm

1:02pm

Well, Mr S, it's all a matter of opinion isn't it?

I don't think people were moaning as much about one up front when we had the player (Juke) who could handle it.

It was good to see him and Mason play together at times but I'm a firm believer in horses for courses. You shouldn't have one style, one formation etc.

1:00pm

Another email question from Mr S - very mysterious - which reads...

"Why's Dougie Freedman always playing with one striker when its clear to everyone that we get more wins with two strikers up front?"

12:57pm

Interesting point Chris. With all the clamour to sign Jutkiewicz it's often missed that he didn't look 100 per cent at the end of the season.

I think Freedman fancies his chances of keeping his sharp. With a few more options up front, I think the same would go for Beckford.

My personal opinion is that Jutkiewicz is an investment. If that kind of money can be found, I doubt we'd find better elsewhere.

12:55pm

12:54pm

12:53pm

I always say that Mark Davies, when fully fit, would be the best midfielder in the division. Sadly, that hasn't happened since we dropped into the Championship.

The decision to take him out of the side at the end of last season was an interesting one. Whether it was done for fitness reasons or for financial ones, I'm interested to see.

12:52pm

12:13pm Fri 13 Jun 14

J J J J says

With Mark Davies being tied down to a deal till 2017 and DF opting to extend his deal, he must surely be in his plans and could be a massive season for him next season providing he doesn't get injured? Pivotal part to play in my opinion

12:51pm

I hate saying this but the couple of names that have been bandied about, I have been asked not to write about them (yet). I'm sure a trawl through the web will find the names you're looking for, though.

Dougie also mentioned that there were targets in Austria, Switzerland and Norway he was looking at, so the answer could well lie elsewhere.

Sorry about being vague.

12:48pm

12:48pm

Matt Mills - as Tim Ream's went into retreat towards the end of the season.

Your previous tweet confused me, though, as I've never had a beard in my life.

12:47pm

12:46pm

I'd imagine Speroni wanted to stay in the Premier League with Palace, where he's an absolute legend. Good keeper.

I'm going to do some research into this young lad (Ross Fitzsimons) today and see what his back story is. Hopefully we can get something in the paper.

12:45pm

Another email, this one from James Harrison, who asks...

"Who is this goalie we have signed from Palace and why didn't we sign the better one (Speroni)?"

12:42pm

Emails are building up a bit - I'll get round to you all, promise!

12:40pm

I'm looking into that. Lee-Barrett's deal is still out there as far as I know - but I'll admit that signing Ross Fitzsimons makes it look less likely that he'll be back.

Bogdan and Lonergan have been linked elsewhere but I don't think anything remotely concrete has happened, so they will still be here in the last year of their contract as far as I know.

12:38pm

J J J J says

This new goalkeeper, did we sign him because Lee-barratt wouldn't sign a new deal or is someone else on the way out?

12:38pm

12:28pm Fri 13 Jun 14

J J J J says

DF clearing out the high earners who think they are too big for our beloved club, that's what I think happened with eagles

12:37pm

At the risk of offending anyone, I'll put a few names in a few categories...

Mad as hatters: Wheater, Beckford, Bogdan.

Safe pairs of hands: Holden, Mills, Danns.

Don't really want to be there: Spearing, Baptiste, Chungy.

Never there: Mark Davies (boo)

12:34pm

A second emailed question from Nick Taylor now...

He writes: "Who is the best and worst player to interview in the squad?"

12:32pm

A fair point.

The scouting system is very complex and a lot of it is done via statistical analysis now. If you've watched Moneyball, you'll know what I mean.

But I agree - there does seem to be a recurring theme. Name me a manager who doesn't go back to what he knows, though...

12:30pm

12:30pm

I don't think Bolton are going to sign him permanently. Someone I know down at Bournemouth said Cardiff were quoting £2million for him last season - and I don't see the club paying that. A loan deal would depend on how charitable Cardiff are feeling - but never say never!

12:29pm

12:28pm

Easier said than done. It has been like party time when Wanderers have received actual bids for the "big earners."

Keith Andrews was one of the few who took it upon themselves to move on.

12:27pm

12:18pm Fri 13 Jun 14

J J J J says

Maybe do like last season to buy the juke by selling/ loaning a high earner to bring him in? and it'll be like an exchange?

12:26pm

The full details of what went wrong with Eagles are yet to come out - but about the time he got an eye infection (club's diagnosis, not mine), things went completely to pot.

Sordell just didn't fit at Bolton. His mind seemed to me to be elsewhere and Dougie needed to clear a bit of space in the budget. Whether that changes after the summer, I don't know. But my money is on him moving on.

12:24pm

Another one from the email.

Andrew Hatfield asks (one of two): Dougie said he wanted to build a team around Eagles and that he loved working with young players like Sordell. What went wrong?

12:22pm

On Mason, I think we still need to wait and see what Cardiff are up to. Dougie Freedman would clarly like him back - but I don't see a permanent deal being done. I think that would be too pricey.

12:21pm

My gut feeling is that the club will find the money from somewhere to sign Jutkiewicz. It's a perfect fit and I think the price is a realistic one - but of course there are other clubs who could potentially drive it up.

12:20pm

12:19pm

Chungy is another of those players who keeps on getting linked elsewhere - but no-one has actually come forward with a bid.

My own opinion is that if the club received a good bid for him after the World Cup, they would sell. But that's a big IF.

Of course, a good World Cup won't harm his value, so I'll be cheering him on when he starts against Russia next Tuesday.

12:18pm

12:11pm Fri 13 Jun 14

J J J J says

What are the chances CYL will still be at BWFC next season? Could he be sold/ handed a new deal on lesser terms, with him being a high earner, Have we had any progress on The Juke?

12:17pm

I have no reason to believe the court case will impact upon the finances available for transfers. There hasn't been a single indication to suggest that.

12:16pm

12:15pm

I'm sorry to sound like a broken record but the size of the debt really isn't the issue - it's my understanding that the rules of Financial Fair Play only allow a club to make an £8m loss, which presently Wanderers are not that far away from doing. The balance is very tight despite losing a couple of big earners - but I have been given indications from within the club that Jutkiewicz is a realistic target.

12:13pm

One more from the email, as my Twitter feed isn't working properly at the moment (might need a restart).

Nick Taylor's first question is:

Are we really so far in debt that we cannot afford Lukas Jutkiewicz?

12:10pm

I'm not sure Wanderers are openly touting Mark Davies, Glenn, but the same clubs seem to continue being linked with him. Realistically, £3million?

12:09pm

An emailed question from Glenn Cooke:

How much would Wanderers get for Mark Davies this summer if he is up for sale as we would believe?

12:06pm

No-one has been officially transfer listed to my knowledge.

Agents normally circulate names if a manager feels he needs to sell or loan a player.

Keith Andrews and Marvin Sordell are two that I believe have been looking for a new club next season.

Some interesting examples coming in - my own worst experience covering Bolton would have been Fabrice Muamba's collapse (at least that's how it felt at the time). Still gives me chills to this day.

The most deflating result would have to be the Stoke semi-final. I genuinely thought we'd booked a place in Europe when we got them at Wembley but the players just didn't show up.

As for signings, I've been sad to see quite a few players leave - Cahill, Alonso, Jaaskelainen, Al Habsi to name but a few.

The Bolton News: David Bentley (c)

Hearing that David Bentley - linked with Wanderers on more than one occasion - has retired from the game at the age of 29. Shame.

What are the chances CYL will still be at BWFC next season? Could he be sold/ handed a new deal on lesser terms, with him being a high earner, Have we had any progress on The Juke?

With Mark Davies being tied down to a deal till 2017 and DF opting to extend his deal, he must surely be in his plans and could be a massive season for him next season providing he doesn't get injured? Pivotal part to play in my opinion

Maybe do like last season to buy the juke by selling/ loaning a high earner to bring him in? and it'll be like an exchange?

This new goalkeeper, did we sign him because Lee-barratt wouldn't sign a new deal or is someone else on the way out?
