MEXICO’S all-time top goalscorer Jared Borgetti first made his appearance on the big stage at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.

The goal-machine helped his side top a tough group with goals in the draw with Italy and a win against Ecuador.

A slender 1-0 victory over Croatia set up a last 16 tie against USA, where his tournament ended with a 2-0 defeat.

While at Wanderers, Borgetti travelled to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, starting the first game – a 3-1 victory over Iran.

He was an unused substitute in the goalless draw with Angola and the defeat to Portugal but Mexico still qualified from their group in second place.

Back in the starting line-up for the last 16 game against Argentina, Borgetti failed to get on the scoresheet as his side lost 2-1 after extra-time.

The striker made his international debut in 1997 against Ecuador and went on to play 89 matches, scoring 46 goals before calling time on his international career in 2008.

The Mexican joined Wanderers in the summer of 2005 and in his 32 games managed to find the back of the net seven times before moving on to Al Ittihad in the Middle East.
