Denmark's Per Frandsen

Denmark's Per Frandsen

PER Frandsen was part of the Denmark squad that marched to the quarter-finals of the 1998 World Cup in France.

The Wanderers midfielder came off the bench in the victory over Saudi Arabia but did not feature in the remaining two group games – a draw with South Africa and a defeat to France.

Frandsen was a used substitute in the final 16 game against Nigeria which Denmark won 4-1, but he failed to make an appearance off the bench in the quarter-final defeat to Brazil.

Denmark did not qualify for the 1994 World Cup when Frandsen was playing for FC Copenhagen – where he won the Danish Cup – and he was not picked in the squad for the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.

He made a total of 23 appearances for Denmark.

Frandsen was transferred to OSC Lille in 1990 where he played 109 games before moving to his hometown club in 1994.

A £350,000 transfer to Wanderers – who were then in the second tier – in 1996 was a successful one as he played a key role in winning the title and promotion to the Premier League.

He went on to spend a year at Blackburn Rovers in 1999 before returning to the Reebok Stadium to help Wanderers return to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2001.

Frandsen became a firm fans’ favourite during eight seasons with Bolton, making 304 appearances and scoring 36 goals.

He joined Wigan Athletic in 2004 before retiring in 2005 .

Reebok Al says...

Frandsen is one of the best players I've seen in a Wanderers shirt. Having one or two more like him would be nice.
