WITH three of the top four teams not playing due to heavy rain, Atherton had the opportunity to climb from third to joint second.

But they blew it with a dire performance, and Darcy Lever capitalised with a good display of their own to run out winners by a massive 114 runs.

As captain Nick Fawcett told The Bolton News on Friday, Darcy have been struggling for runs this season and have had their bowlers to thank for keeping them up with the leading pack.

But there were no batting problems on show on Saturday as, boosted by the appearance of a high quality sub-pro in the form of Usman Tariq, who scored a fabulous 74 not out, Darcy posted a massive 185-2 from just 26 overs.

Chris Fenn scored 69 in by far the Hacken Lane men’s best batting performance of the season.

Atherton overseas player Rashon Primus took 2-40 before Dominic Gavin completed the job for Darcy with a devastating 6-21 off 10 overs.

The result saw Atherton drop four places to seventh and Darcy – who have now won six of their last nine league games – climb four to fifth.

At the other end of the table, Jimmy Cutt and Travis Wordsworth spearheaded an impressive 79-run victory for second-bottom Astley and Tyldesley over Worsley.

Captain and pro Cutt scored 54 and then followed up with 6-32, while overseas player Wordsworth outshone him with the bat as he hit a stunning 100 not out.

Together they put on 102 for the second wicket in a match reduced to 31 overs because of rain.

The next five batsmen mustered just 16 runs between them as A&T posted 200-5, Himesh Silva taking 3-55.

Wordsworth took 2-35 as Worsley were all out for 121 (Michael Old 39) to leaved A&T celebrating only their second league win of the season.

Edgworth were probably wishing the raid had not stopped at Blackrod when they found themselves 17-5.

They rallied a little to post 80-8 from 32 overs.

It was the second time in a week Blackrod had bowled out their opponents cheaply, Tushendra de Zoysa taking 3-15 off 12 overs, Matthew Stears 3-33 and Chamila Wejasinghe putting in a quality seven-over spell at the start of the innings and took 2-15.

Ashley Eastwood settled things a little for Edgworth with 17 at number five while Greg Boyes finished on 15 not out.

De Zoysa then scored 39 not out and finished off a true all-round performance by making his team-mates a curry which they reported was as good as his cricket.

Blackrod won by six wickets, Jaco Fourie taking 3-28 for Edgworth.

The partnership of Sam Heeley and Dave Bowden steered Standish to a thrilling victory over visiting Little Hulton.

Chasing a reduced target of 141 from 28 overs, captain Heeley scored 56 not out and Bowden 54 not out as third-bottom Standish won with five balls remaining.

Bottom club Little Hulton posted 154-4 off their 31 overs with Jabir Patel scoring 53 not out and Shaukat Patel striking a rapid-fire 39 not out including five sixes.

Niall Burke took 2-41 off his seven overs.

Golborne climbed three places to 12th with a 21-run victory at 10th-placed Swinton Moorside, despite only having 10 men.

James Whittaker (38 not out) and Jake Waterworth (34) piled on the runs in an early partnership for Golborne as they posted 154-4.

The home side’s reply began well at 61-1 after six overs, but it all went wrong from there as they collapsed to 83-8.

Opener Jonny Herreran scored 34 and sub pro Chris Holt 21, and late on Brad Palmer – who had previously taken 2-28 – scored 31 while the last two wickets put on 50.

Jack Cullen and Tom Pantak did the damage for Golborne with 5-26 and 4-44, respectively.

There was also a collapse at Adlington where the home team went from 37-0 to 57-7 on their way to a closing 79-9 in reply to Daisy Hill’s 106-6 (Amjid Khan 39, Paul Atherton 26; Majid Majeed 2-48, Ben King 2-13).

Adlington opener Jack Shovelton top scored with 23, Stuart Plowes produced a sensible 22 not out at the end, and number 11 Zak Millington played out the last three overs carrying an injury to help earn his side an extra two bonus points.

Khan also starred with the ball with an outstanding 5-26 off 12 overs.

The matches between Elton and leaders Flixton, second-placed Bury and Walshaw, and Lostock and Winton were abandoned without a ball bowled.
