Bolton Wanderers bracing themselves for Mark Davies bid from Premier League

WANDERERS are preparing themselves for a bid for midfielder Mark Davies on transfer deadline day.

Sources at the club report that a “couple of calls” have been received this morning about the 26-year-old play-maker, who is available for around £3million.

Davies has not played for the Whites since March and has been sidelined since pre-season with a fractured toe.

Burnley, Leicester and Swansea were all linked with him over the summer but the stories were dismissed at the time as “agent talk.”

It now remains to be seen whether a firm bid is received, which could potentially give Dougie Freedman some scope to bring in new players before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

No more 25 quid plus every fortnight from this punter.

Ideally don't want to sell but if we can bring some good replacements in with some of the cash (the manager has to sell before he buys and won't get all the money - lets not kid ourselves) then it could be a move worth making. He is injury prone after all but on the other hand is one of the only quality players we have. Iys a fine line and it could work out or not but sometimes you have to take the risk. The replacements must also be proven at this level and Glen Murray would be the pick of the crop for me.

Yes let's sell arguably our most talented playmaker in the entire squad for a pittance and replace them with loanees from lower league sides.

£2 or £3m isn't a drop in the ocean and who are we going to get with that money, a playmaker? A 20 a season striker?

I do not question his ability but he is injury prone and we only get a quarter of a season out of him every year. Andy Kellet showed at the end of last season he has the ability to run at defenders like Davies so will he be missed?.

I'd say yes seeing as Kellett is a defender.

The simple reason of Mark Davies not playing, indicates to me, that he will be sold, and past injuries is the main reason he has not been selected and keeping him free from injury will make him more sellable.

The next few hours will tell.

Sorry but this is the guy our leader has been saying will make a great striker for us. We need a striker we can't afford a striker so we will have to use Davies he has proved he can score goals. So it should be "He's not for Sale" Not take the first offer that comes along.

Let him go. As much as I enjoy seeing him at full flow, he rarely achieves a consistent run in the team and is frequently injured.

We won't get anywhere near £3m, he's likely to go for may be half of that at best.

Use the funds to secure Glenn Murray. Or DF's pay-off.

I'd be surprised of anyone came in for a single player at the moment . Davies overrated when was the last good game he had . No consistency and injury prone if someone does make any sort of bid snap there hands off for DF and Company's payoff .

Would feel a lot more positive about losing Davies if Freedman had a good record of buying suitable players. Unfortunately, he just keeps buying rubbish.

No team is going to splash out £3 million on a player who has been out injured more than time playing. He is another Stuart Holden, injury prone, talented but useless for our club in the present moment.

I cannot see the point of selling one of our most talented players and then buying two very average players (at best) with the money, it would just bring more mediocrity. We've been doing this now for the last two years and where has it got us? On another point, two quotes by Freedman on the Leeds match; 'It's all they had in them' and our team should 'start thinking about protecting a lead' when we've gone ahead. If that's all Leeds had in them, then it's still better than us, so what does that say about our current standards? And we need to methodically protect a lead which happens on the training ground, through tactics and the presence of the manager, not just 'think' about it! Try watching one of our matches under big Sam and you might learn something Freedman.

Yes but having seen Kellett play, he looks to be favourable as an attacking midfielder rather than defender.

He's one of our own, he's one of ooooooourrr ooowwn... he's Andy Kellett... he's one of our own.
