INTERNATIONAL red tape could delay Eidur Gudjohnsen’s debut for Wanderers.
The club confirmed the 36-year-old’s return on a short-term contract this morning but now need to have the move rubber-stamped by the FA by this evening to allow him to feature in Neil Lennon’s squad against Reading tomorrow.
The matter currently lies in the hands of the Belgian FA, where Gudjohnsen's international clearance is currently held.
Theoretically, clearance could be granted right up to kick-off tomorrow, but the club believe their best chance of getting the go-ahead is for the registration to be passed on to the English authorities by close of play today.
Gudjohnsen has trained with the club for the last month and featured in two games – a friendly and a development squad match – in the last fortnight.
If he gets the all-clear to face the Royals, he is likely to be named on the substitute’s bench at the Madejski Stadium.
