NEIL Lennon has wished Clarke Carlisle a speedy recovery after the former Burnley defender was involved in a serious road accident near York on Monday.

Carlisle is currently in hospital, described as “very poorly, but stable” by his wife Gemma yesterday.

The 35-year-old was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A64 and North Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Speaking for the club, Lennon hopes the former Professional Footballers’ Association chairman will be back on his feet soon.

“On behalf of everyone here we wish him a quick and speedy recovery,” he told The Bolton News. “He’s a good guy Clarke, well respected within the game. He’s probably the most intelligent player we’ve had in this country but the work he did with the PFA made him the spokesman for a lot of good things in this game.

“Especially at this time of year we hope he’ll be back up and and around soon.”
