LIAM Trotter is determined to make up for lost time and show Wanderers fans what he is all about.

The 26-year-old heads back to the scene of his highest point as a Whites player on Saturday when Neil Lennon takes his team to Sheffield Wednesday, where Trotter arrowed home a stunning strike in a 3-1 win last season.

It is the midfielder's only goal for the club to date in 27 appearances since joining a year ago, but he believes there are more in his locker now he is back in the starting XI.

His aim is to stay there and he hopes a return to Hillsborough will be lucky for him in his mission to cement a regular place after three successive starts.

Trotter said: "Maybe when I get to Sheffield I’ll shoot from long range again.

"It has been a really frustrating season for me, personally, with injuries.

“It’s been frustrating really since I came to the club because I don’t think I’ve had an opportunity to show what I can really do, why I was really signed.

“I’m happy to be back involved.

"The manager spoke to me and told me what he thinks, what he wants me to do out on the pitch in this team. It’s up to me now.

“I want to get my best form back out on the pitch but I feel fit, I feel strong and I’m ready to make up for lost time. I’m looking forward to the second half of the season."

The former Ipswich and Millwall man has shown glimpses of his ability since returning to the side with a fine display in the FA Cup victory over Wigan.

He also saw a header cleared off the line in Saturday's draw with Leeds.

It is form that has pleased Trotter who says he always kept faith he could have an impact once he recovered from the hamstring injury he picked up in the Capital One Cup win at Crewe.

He added: "Obviously there are self-doubts when you’re a footballer but the manager came in just as I was getting myself fully fit again, so I knew in myself that those first two, three, four weeks were important.

“It was going to take me a while just to get up to speed with the rest of the lads in training because when I came back they were miles past me.

“Everyone was at a level I wasn’t at. I just tried to focus on working hard and getting fit, training every day, and fitness-wise I feel like I’m getting there now.

"It was just a case of being patient for a place in the side.

“I knew I wouldn’t walk into the team because they have been flying but now I’m there, I need to take the opportunity I’ve been given."
