NEIL Lennon continues to have faith in young midfielder Josh Vela who he says has been a big plus for him in recent months.

Like many of his team-mates, the 21-year-old Salfordian had a difficult day at Derby County on Saturday as the Whites crashed to a 4-1 defeat.

His manager has backed him to bounce back tonight against Fulham, though he admits he does not want the academy graduate to suffer from burn out.

Vela, who has played 18 times this season, has been in fine form and it has been revealed he has committed his future to the club with a new deal until 2017 – though that contract was signed a year ago without being made public.

And Lennon will certainly be pleased to have Vela in his ranks for the foreseeable future.

The Whites boss told The Bolton News: “Possibly the games are catching up with him.

“We have to look after Josh in that respect.

“He has been playing in midfield and at right-back but he’s been excellent.

“You hope he learns from that experience on Saturday.

“He’s a young player who has been fantastic.

“He made a couple of mistakes at the weekend but that happens with young players from time to time.

“He will certainly play tonight.”
