EIDUR Gudjohnsen is in line for a shock recall to the Iceland national squad.

Now 36, the Wanderers forward is expected to be named in his country’s squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Kazakhstan later this month when coaches Heimir Hallgrimsson and Lars Lagerbäck announce their picks this week.

The Iceland national side’s record scorer with 24 goals in 78 games has not represented his country since their World Cup play-off defeat to Croatia in November 2013 and suggested that might have been his final game at the time.

But his return to form at Wanderers with four goals in 12 games this year has prompted a call-up with sources in his homeland understanding the Icelandic FA have applied for a visa to Kazakhstan in Gudjohnsen’s name for the clash on March 28.
