GORDON Sharrock has penned plenty of stories down the years at Bolton Wanderers but has very rarely been the subject of all the attention.
The recently-retired journalist, who spent three decades covering the club around the world out of a 45-year career in newspapers, was guest of honour along with his family at Saturday’s game against Birmingham City.
Gordon was presented with a special glass momento depicting the Reebok Stadium – as was – and Burnden Park, where he had experienced so many highs and lows with the team down the years.
After meeting with chairman Phil Gartside and vice-chairman Brett Warburton, he went out on to the pitch to make the half-time Golden Gamble draw with ex-Wanderers midfielder Tony Kelly.
Gordon also got a grilling from Norman Prince in the Platinum Suite as he recounted some of the famous players he’d dealt with, from Frank Worthington to Youri Djorkaeff.
“It was a lovely gesture from the club,” he said. “It has been a great honour covering them down the years for my local paper.”
