BOLTON cycling brothers Matthew and Thomas Rotherham are national tandem sprint champions.

The Deane duo won the title in Newcastle, beating the world paracycling champions in the final.

Matthew, aged 20, and 18-year-old Thomas travelled to the North East to represent Sportcity Velo at the event.

They set down a marker in the 200m time trial which seeded the pairings for the match sprint rounds, by qualifying fastest.

The former Canon Slade students then showed their dominance by winning every round to set up a best of three final which they won in two straight races.

The event is for able-bodied and paracyclists and the Rotherhams' final opponents qualify to compete in paracycling because their back rider is partially sighted.
