LOW maintenance Dean Moxey’s form in the last few months was one of the contributing factors to Neil Lennon sanctioning the sale of Tim Ream to QPR.

The former Crystal Palace defender has spent long chunks of his Wanderers career out of the first team picture but enjoyed a strong finish to last season, which has bled into the current campaign.

Ream had made the left-back slot his own after initially moving there as an emergency measure under Dougie Freedman.

Moxey, who had been recruited by Freedman as a specialist, failed to nail down a regular place but after improving his all-round game, Lennon feels he is starting to look the part.

“He has started the season very well,” the manager said. “Dean has shown he can be a good player, he just needs to find that consistency of performance.

“He has been solid defensively and added to his attacking play. He has put his mind to it during pre-season and the start of the season.

Moxey started just five out of 33 games between late October and mid-April last season, and heads to Middlesbrough today as the only proven left-back option in the squad.

Lennon has praised his attitude in recent months, and believes the 29-year-old is now getting his rewards.

“He is a quiet boy and not one to come knocking on your door,” he said. “He is a good professional and just gets on with it. He is unfussy in that respect.

“He is playing with a lot of confidence.”
