TURTON can seal promotion to the West Lancashire League's top flight tonight, after Saturday's thumping victory at Wyre Villa.

They racked up another win with a clean sheet at Wyre Villa, running out 5-0 winners in Fylde to add to a 3-0 success in the President's Cup last month.

Luke Bradbury's deft volley got Turton on the board 15 minutes in and Danny Locke doubled the advantage before the break. Kingsley Williams, who had earlier set up Bradbury's strike, then grabbed a brace and Dillon Winstanley completed the rout five minutes from time.

"We said to the lads before the game that we were in for a tough game, they're a very physical side and we knew they'd try to unsettle us," said joint manager Neil Hart. "We rode out the first 20 minutes or so and then our quality and fitness showed and we controlled the game. And Kingsley showed what a top player he is with two really good goals."

Turton now lead second-placed Burscough Richmond – who have played two more games – by 12 points and can seal their passage to the Premier Division when they host Haslingden St Mary's at Thomason Fold tonight.

Tempest, who are still harbouring hopes of promotion, were disappointed to only take a point from their 3-3 draw at Poulton, but as that only came via Steve Barlow's late equaliser manager Ross McNair is staying positive about his team's chances.

"We were very disappointed to only draw but we're in a bit of a bad patch and we were 3-1 behind early in the second half and we just never got going," he conceded. "Before the season started we'd have taken a point from Poulton away and it's still up to us what happens over the next six or seven games.

"We've still got games in hand so it's in our hands, starting with Mill Hill tonight (Tuesday) and Hawcoat on Saturday. They'll be two tough games but we're at home so we'll be positive.

"We had a slow start to the season then we found our range and won 15 games before the weather hit us just at the wrong time."

In the Premier League Eagley's wastefulness in front of goal saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat at home to Slyne With Hest.

After a goalless first half Eagley fell behind moments after the restart. Nathan Derbyshire brought down a Slyne attacker and goalkeeper Tom McDonald was given no chance with the resulting penalty.

A mix-up at the back gifted the visitors a second goal and although Andy Lindley pulled one back with a fine finish after beating his man Eagley couldn't force an equaliser.

"We could, and should, have gone in at half-time one up," said Eagley's Colin Whaley. "But Taylor Jones put his finish over in a one-on-one with their keeper right at the end of the half. That would have been a big boost for us and then we conceded that penalty with virtually the first kick of the second half. We've no complaints about it, Nathan clearly took their lad down.

"It was an even game, but they took their chances and apart from Andy's goal, which was well taken, we missed ours."

A good weekend for Bolton County saw them hit Swarthmoor Social for six, with Tom Axon-Smith accounting for half of them.

The Bolton side simply had too much quality for their hosts, who have chalked up just two wins all season, and after an own goal put County ahead Joe Fielding and Charlie Scholes also got among the goals.

Swarthmoor currently prop up Division Two and when Kieran Hennessy's fifth-minute attempt on goal rebounded in off a defender's knee there was little doubt about the result.

"We scored six and could have had another six, to be honest," said manager Mark Ormrod. "It was a heavy pitch but we dealt with it well and exploited their lack of pace at the back, we probably wasted six gilt-edged opportunities to score. Our wingers created numerous chances and Liam and Callum Shorts won everything in the centre of midfield.

"I felt for them really, their manager said that own goal just summed up their season. Tom's hat-trick goal was the pick of the bunch, a really impressive volley from the edge of the box.

"I'm not even too upset at Swarthmoor's consolation, it came late in the game when our lads were tiring and it was a good weekend, topped off with our bus driver winning £50 on their Grand National sweep."

Tonight County are to host local rivals Stoneclough, a far shorter journey for the visitors after their trip to Furness Cavaliers at the weekend.

Stoneclough returned home happy from Furness after a 2-1 victory, Joe McCann and Mark Gordon the scorers and club secretary Peter Conroy told the The Bolton News: "That was the third time in four weeks we've travelled up there, so we're happy we've got those Barrow journeys out of the way now – and we've won all five of our games up there, so it's been a happy hunting ground for us this season.

"It was such a cold and miserable day, the conditions were really difficult up there but Joe McCann scored our first inside two minutes. We had all the play but let in a scrappy goal about 20 minutes in.

"We were never going to lose though, particularly once Mark scored a great second goal. He ran from the halfway line and put it in and that knocked the stuffing out of them. They put up a good rearguard action but I never felt that we were in trouble, we did the business and if they'd scored a second equaliser it really wouldn't have been deserved.

"It sets up our game at Bolton County nicely, it should be a really interesting one."

Elsewhere in Division Two, CMB were 4-2 winners at home to Furness Rovers. Neil Holmes, Danny Warburton, Will Archer and Scott McNair were the men on target for CMB, who sit third but have six games in hand on leaders Kendal County. They host Croston Sports tonight.
