THIS week I would like to move away from football and discuss the other great sports in the area.

The BBDFL has constantly outlined its willingness to support other sports and sports clubs and it is great that we have built up a wonderful relationship with Heaton Cricket Club who constantly provide opportunities for men, women and children in a number of sports.

In addition to their thriving cricket section – which includes senior and junior teams – they also have table tennis and rounders teams, host many great events at their club and are a big supporter of the work of the BBDFL.

To get involved in Heaton Cricket Club or to find out more, visit their website at www.heatoncricketclub.co.uk.

I was also recently contacted by Bolton Old Links Golf Club which is in its 125th anniversary year.

The club has lots of great opportunities for youngsters to take up golf and even have an under-10s membership option which is free to sign up to.

We are currently working with Old Links to showcase what the club can offer to junior members and this is being supported by our patron, former Wanderers skipper Kevin Davies

Cricket and golf are just two sports out of the many that are available in an area which has a vibrant sporting community.

Let's work together and make that community even stronger for the future.
