THE wet weather may have accounted for some of the finals at the Macron Stadium but there was no dampening spirits at the two-day junior football festival.
The Bolton, Bury and District Football League (BBDFL) staged the event at Wanderers' Macron Stadium on Saturday and the Eddie Davies Academy the following day, with some high-quality football on show.
Proceedings got under way with Whelley Alexandra's 5-1 win against Ladybridge Lazors in the under-12 Players Cup, which was followed by the u12 Chairman's Cup, which pitted FC Strikerz Athleticos against Walshaw Sports. In a tense match the winner could not be decided without the need for a penalty shoot-out, which Strikerz won 9-8.
The only other match at the Macron was also decided by spot-kicks, after Nelson and Tyldesley Juniors had played out a 2-2 draw, Nelson taking the trophy with a 5-4 shoot-out victory.
Rain then meant that the finals to decide who would win the u17 and u18 Chairman's Cups, and the u21 Shield, will have to be played at a later date and BBDFL officials are hoping to return to the Macron for these fixtures.

The Saturday was then postponed due to the waterlogged pitch which can be seen on the Nelson v Tyldesley photos so the U17s, 18s and 21s could not be played
The committee is working with BWFC to establish if we are able to host them, or we may need to seek venues elsewhere
