BOLTON Metro Swim Squad continue to make a splash at the ASA North West Regional Summer Championships following a run of successes in the event.

The squad's senior relay teams have booked a place at July's British National Championships in Sheffield.

Anna Doughty, Rachel Morris, Mollie McArt and Emily Barclay have qualified to take part in the over-17s 4x100m freestyle and medley races and James Oxborrow, James Morrison, Jack Dandy and Arran Bostock will compete in the o17s 4x200m freestyle.

They will be up against the best young swimmers in the country when they take to Ponds Forge between July 26-31.

Head coach Mike Robinson said: “The national final is where the best of the best compete – and to have two teams qualify is a superb result.

"This shows the strength of the squad – and the commitment of the youngsters here at our club.

"They train for many hours a week to reach this standard.”

The squad’s younger swimmers also enjoyed success at the regionals in Liverpool at the weekend.

A host of swimmers made the finals in their events, with Gabriel Glynn coming third in the u14s' 100m butterfly.

Isaac Brennand (u14s 200m butterfly/100 m butterfly) and Jake Reynolds (u13s 200m butterfly/100m butterfly) also performed well in a highly competitive field to make the finals in their events.

Junior coach Lawrence Mills said: “Swimming in the regional competition is a major achievement, and this year the squad have had more youngsters making the grade than ever before.

"We are very proud of what they’re achieving."

The regionals finish this weekend with four more busy sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
