PHIL Parkinson has backed Keshi Anderson to give Wanderers a new attacking dimension in League One.

The loan recruit grabbed a goal on his debut against Southend United on Saturday to endear himself to his new fans at the Macron Stadium.

But Whites boss Parkinson insists the Crystal Palace youngster has plenty more to give once the team settles in around him.

“What I like about Keshi is that he has pace but not only that, he also makes intelligent runs,” he told The Bolton News. “It’s okay being fast, you have to know how to use it and Keshi’s timing is excellent as we saw a couple of times against Southend running in behind.

“He hasn’t been with us long and is still finding his feet. But I’m delighted he got his goal. Strikers just need to score and get that one to their name and then they can relax a bit more.”

Anderson made a fast start to last season with Doncaster Rovers but saw it cut short when he fractured his leg playing against Rochdale.

Since then he has worked on his comeback in the Palace development squad, which is where Wanderers scouts Tim Breacker and Paul Dyer were alerted to his availability.

“He got a bad injury last season but I know Alan Pardew really well and we have been monitoring him closely since he first popped up at Doncaster last season,” Parkinson explained.

“What I was delighted about was that him and Sammy Ameobi haven’t been used to the cut and thrust of first-team football this season – they have been with the under-21s – so to see them hit the ground running was very pleasing.

“I was tempted to take Keshi off at one point but even when we dropped him behind the front two I thought he was excellent.”

Ameobi started on the bench, with Parkinson admitting some of his new recruits needed at least an extra week of training before they can be considered as starters.

Tom Thorpe and Ben Alnwick were also named as substitutes in what looked a strong Wanderers squad.

“We didn’t have a lot of time with some of them and there was travelling involved on Wednesday when we actually got them in,” he said. “We’ll have a full week with them again because there is no midweek match and see how things shape up for the MK Dons game.”
