TURTON boss Neil Hart believes his side’s fast start to Saturday’s Premier Division derby at high-flying Tempest United was key to their 2-0 victory.

Matty Ward put the visitors ahead after just five minutes and they doubled their advantage through Paul Bridge’s penalty on the stroke of half time.

They weathered the home side’s second-half storm to seal a 2-0 triumph for a timely first away win of the season and Hart was delighted with the clean sheet as well as the victory,

The Turton boss told The Bolton News: “We talked about starting quickly and that’s exactly what we did.

“The early goal from Matty settled us down and gave us confidence.

“We have not been clinical in both boxes of late so to take our chances in front of goal and keep it tight at the back was really pleasing.

“We were in control for most of the game really.

“We had a game plan and carried it out to perfection.

“We knew it would be tough because Ross (McNair, Tempest boss) has got them flying but we were well organised on the day.”

It was a third home defeat in five league games for fourth-placed Tempest and assistant manager Gary Westhead had no complaints about the result.

He said: “For some unexplainable reason we are not doing it at home.

“We have played well overall this season but Saturday was a bad performance and it is not the time you want that in a derby.

“Fair play to Turton, they did a job on us but we just didn’t play. We got nothing and that is all we deserved.

“Sloppy defending saw us concede early and then the penalty on half time killed us.

“It was as if our players thought the game was won before we kicked off and this may be a wake-up call.”

Meanwhile, Eagley lost 3-0 at Fulwood Amateurs in the Premier Division.

In Division One, Ladybridge went down 3-0 at Dalton United but Stoneclough won 4-1 at home to Burscough Richmond thanks to a Liam Stewart hat-trick and a Jean Biangumba goal.
