WANDERERS Under-18s suffered stoppage-time disappointment on Saturday when they were denied victory by Sheffield United.

Nicky Spooner's side travelled to South Yorkshire for the U18 Professional Development League clash in confident mood after the previous weekend's 3-2 win against Crewe.

And it showed from the start as they dominated their hosts with some fast-flowing football.

An early chance saw Alex Samizadeh fire wide after a neat pass from Jack Earing but the young Whites did not have long to wait to break the deadlock.

And it was Samizadeh who slotted home after a good run and cross from Ryan White.

Leading at half time, Wanderers came out looking to add to their tally but were pegged back when the referee's assistant adjudged the ball to have crossed the line with Whites stopper James Aspinall confident he had kept the ball out.

Undeterred, Wanderers kept pushing for a second goal and with five minutes remaining they looked to have secured all three points when Shakeel Jones-Griffiths netted after a good move.

Aspinall then made two good saves as the Blades pressed right to the end.

And the leaders snatched a share of the spoils in time added on to thwart the young Whites.

Spooner told The Bolton News: "We dominated the game from the start with fast, attacking football looking to get in behind their defence.

"Our opening goal came from a good run by Ryan White who crossed for Alex Samizadeh to slot home.

"At the start of the second half Sheffield were awarded a dubious goal when James Aspinall made a good save low but the linesman ruled the ball had crossed the line.

"We then pushed for the winner and were rewarded with five minutes to go when Jones-Griffiths scored from a good attack.

"However in stoppage time Sheffield equalised against the run of play.

"The boys were excellent on the day and the result hurt them."
