WANDERERS have been hit by the news Lawrie Wilson will be out for a minimum 10-week spell, leaving the club without a recognised senior right-back.

The Whites confirmed Wilson will see a specialist tomorrow to see whether surgical intervention is needed on a torn hamstring tendon, damaged in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at MK Dons.

If he requires an operation it is likely the 29-year-old, who missed just one game in league and cup competition since October 4, will be unavailable for the rest of the season.

Phil Parkinson had already been looking for cover, inviting Bulgaria international Ivan Bandalovski in for a trial which started on Monday.

It is understood the club passed on Paul Caddis – who has linked-up with Blackburn Rovers – but could try and tempt former utility man Joey O’Brien into a trial if the Irishman recovers quickly from a calf injury.

O’Brien, who made 70 appearances in seven seasons with the Whites during the Premier League era, has been without a club since his release at West Ham last summer. The Dubliner spent five years at Upton Park and helped the Hammers back into the Premier League via the play-offs under Sam Allardyce in 2012.

The lack of an immediate replacement means Parkinson will have to make do and mend for this weekend’s visit of Walsall and the Valentine’s Day clash with Rochdale three days later.

The manager’s current options include drafting Derik Osede or Josh Vela in on the right side of defence, or changing his formation entirely.

But the Whites boss has got some better news on the opposite side of his back four, with Andy Taylor making good progress from the groin problem which forced him to pull out of the team at the last moment on Saturday.

Taylor missed his first league outing in 18 at Milton Keynes but fears that he too could be sidelined for an extended period have been eased.
