TITLE glory is now firmly in sight for Bolton Wanderers Ladies after a 3-1 victory over MSB Woolton and a slip-up by nearest-rivals Wigan put them within touching distance of silverware.

Woolton came closest to denting the Whites’ unbeaten record in the North West Regional Women’s League and it was no coincidence keeper Britt Jackson collected the player-of-the-match award.

The deadlock was broken just before half time as Michelle Kirkman-Ryan won a penalty, duly despatched by a cool-headed

Racheal Whitelegg.

Woolton grabbed an equaliser after the break with a swift counter attack but Wanderers’ lead was restored with a magnificent free kick from Hayley Langford.

Another fine run from Kirkman-Ryan then gave space for Ruby Howard to slot home a third.

Wigan’s defeat means the Whites are five points clear at the top, with a game in hand, and five to play.

Wanderers’ reserves earned a 3-2 victory over Blackburn Community in the League Cup, Chloe Fell turning home Manda Smalley’s corner to score an early equaliser.

Fell then turned provider for Billie Boardman to head home a second, and she doubled her tally in the second half, capitalising on a good delivery from Nicole Wilson to make it 3-1.

Blackburn nicked one back at the end but Bolton held on to book their place in round two.

The development squad played Moston Brook in their Division Two League Cup group opener, Kirsty Jones pouncing for the opening goal in a 3-3 draw.

Moston drew level before the break but Poppy Haslam’s 20-yard strike put Wanderers back into the lead.

Again, the home side got back on level terms in what had become an end-to-end spectacle.

Megan Dunford’s corner was headed home by Keri O’Loughlin but a late free kick snuck home to leave the scores level at full time.
