THIS week’s nostalgia section features two old photographs of a football team sent in from Devon.

They have been sent to The Bolton News by Dr Peter Watkinson, from Broadhempston, who is researching his grandfather Hugh Watkinson, back row far right above, who played for the unknown team.

Dr Watkinson hopes some readers may be able to help with information.

He said: “I am researching the life of my grandfather Hugh Leslie Watkinson (1891-1974) and wonder if anyone can shed any light on the identity of the football team depicted in the two photographs.

"My grandfather lived in Little Hulton, then Farnworth, and attended Farnworth Grammar School, and the date of the images would be in the range of 1905-1911.

"He played in a team from the greater Bolton area and also pictured, back row second from left above, is his older brother, Harry Ronald Watkinson (1886-1950).

"I am hoping that the team’s shirt design or the background in the picture with the cup, or even the cup itself may allow identification of the club.

"Possibly also the people wearing the suits in the cup picture may be identifiable historic football organisation personalities.”

Can you help Dr Watkinson with any more information?

If so email david.pye@nqnw.co.uk with any details.
