BURNDEN members were out in force for the annual club race, the Trotters 5, through Smithills Country Park, with Shay Walker again leading them across the line.

A total of 57 members turned out for one of the few races last weekend to survive the big freeze.

Walker followed up his top-10 finish in the Terry Nortley 10-miler at Radcliffe the previous weekend with sixth place overall in the Trotters and third V45 in a great time of 30mins 33secs in only his second outing for the club.

He was one of three members to finish in the top 20. Marcus Taylor was 16th and fourth V45 in 31:39 and Rob Short 20th in 31:58.

Tony Wall was second V60 in 37:49 and Phil Glassbrook second V70 in 46:14.

In the women’s race, Sarah Watton was the first Burnden member to finish in a time of 37:44.

The club dominated two age-group categories. Isaline Pollitt was first F50 in 38:16 with Lyndsay Darbyshire just seconds behind in the same category in 38:22.

The club made a clean sweep in the F55 category with the first three places. Gwen Kinloch was first in 37:44, followed by Anne Ferguson, second in 40:12, and Elaine Roper third in 43:50.
