AS the race for the Division One championship hots up in the Bolton at Home Sunday League current leaders Farnworth United knew they could not afford any slip-ups as Queen Anne and Top Club continue to breathe down their necks.

But that is exactly what happened as they only managed to come away with a point in an entertaining 2-2 derby draw with fellow Farnworth side Dehaviland.

Farnworth took the lead after 10 minutes when Arron Monks scored after a goalmouth scramble.

Dehaviland came out with more purpose after the break and equalised on 50 minutes when centre-half Danny Chadwick ran from the halfway line and unleashed a 25-yard screamer into the top corner.

Dehaviland took control and went ahead 15 minutes later when Kristian Preston made no mistake with just the keeper to beat.

Farnworth did not let their heads go down and got an 85th-minute equaliser when referee Arron McCarthy awarded a free kick from which Monks produced an excellent strike for his second.

Second-placed Queen Anne travelled to Harper Green to take on Newbury knowing only a win would do to keep alive their title hopes.

And they made sure of the three points with a resounding 10-1 victory in which Kieron Edwards and Niall Callaghan both scored hat-tricks.

Third-placed Top Club maintained their momentum with a narrow 3-2 success at Bridge Celtic.

Top Club took the lead after 10 minutes from the penalty spot after Tom Jones had been felled. Lewis Porter converted from the spot.

Their Adlington opponents equalised just before half time thanks to a lovely finish from Jake Ross.

In the second half Top Club were the more dominant side and they regained the lead on the hour through Dylan Ross's close-range effort.

They doubled their advantage almost immediately when Travis Vaughn converted with just the keeper to beat.

Dave English pulled one back for Bridge Celtic at the death but their Little Hulton visitors held on for the victory to keep the pressure on Farnworth and Queen Anne.

In Division Two, Westhoughton secured the runners-up spot with a 4-0 victory over the ever-improving Bolton Rangers. The scorers were Cal May with two, Joe Westwell and Andy Thompson. The only other game in the division saw Heaton Casuals beat Deane 3-2. Danny Urmson, Daniel Brown and Jordan Byrne were on target for the winners with Yaz Smajic and Kenny Bateson replying for Deane.
