TOP Club’s treble ambitions moved a step closer as they beat both their closest rivals, Queen Anne and Farnworth United, in the space of six days to go top of Division One of the Bolton At Home Sunday League.

Last Tuesday they edged a 4-3 victory over last season’s champions Queen Anne away then beat the team who had been top for most of the season, Farnworth United, 3-1 on Sunday.

In the latter game Top Club had to come from behind after Anthony Staines' attempted clearance rebounded off one of his own players presenting Farnworth’s Gaz Bentley with the easiest of tap-ins.

The cagey game produced no more goals in the first half and Top Club manager Mark Statham made a few changes in formation.

Prolific striker Travis Vaughn equalised with an excellent strike on the hour and Top Club deservedly went ahead on 75 minutes with a fine finish by Adam Doyle.

Farnworth rallied but found Top Club's defence too resilient and in the last minute Aiden Heaton sealed the points when he rounded the keeper and slotted into an empty net.

The big games continue to come thick and fast for the Little Hulton side who are in the final of the Division One Cup against Astley Bridge Elite this Sunday and face Queen Anne in the Open Cup final at the Macron Stadium the following week.

Second-placed Queen Anne knew after their defeat to Top Club they must beat Bridge Celtic at Adlington if they were going to have any realistic chance of winning the league.

But Bridge had other ideas and matched the Deane side in every department in a 3-3 draw.

Bridge’s goals came from Shaun Greenhalgh (two) and a back heel from Paul Jones.

Goalscorers for Queen Anne were Michael Rice, Chris Donahue and Chris Cankallis.

Mid-table Dehaviland FC travelled to Barlow Park to take on Astley Bridge Elite and went back to Farnworth with nothing as they lost 4-0 – the goals coming from Joe Howlin (two) Sean Toland and Alex Gregory.

Second-bottom Newbury increased the gap above the team below them, Manny Road, with a 2-0 win, Dominic Sharples getting both goals.
