WANDERERS fans were disappointed not to have seen more players join their side this week but Phil Parkinson was buoyant as he prepared for their first home game.

The Whites missed out on several targets as the deadline for transfers came and went but last Saturday’s opening-day victory at West Bromwich Albion means the feelgood factor in the squad is sky-high.

And the manager says there will still be deals done before the loan deadline on August 31.

“Confidence-wise it was huge for us to get that win,” he said ahead of this afternoon’s game at home to Bristol City. “It’s easy to talk about the players we might have missed out on but I’m really pleased with the ones we’ve got in and they’ve settled very well into the squad. We’ve got a really good feel around the training ground, a good work ethic which we’re all about.

“We’ve got to be, we can’t carry anybody out on the football pitch, everybody’s got to be prepared to put a shift in for the team, the training this week has been absolutely top-class, I’ve been really pleased with that. We’ve got good characters in the building and we’d like to add to it and we’d like to give the place a huge lift with a first home win.

Manchester United have not got what they wanted to get in, so it happens. I’m cool about it and we’re ready for a great week with three games in the space of seven days – while we’re doing that we’ll keep an eye out for anyone else we can get our hands on.”

The performance at The Hawthorns, and a deserved three points, set a marker for Wanderers’ performance levels this term.

And as his side prepares for its first outing at what is now the University of Bolton Stadium, Parkinson is keen to show their home following what the class of 2018/19 is capable of producing.

“It was great for us to get that first victory of the season, home or away, and to get the three points on the board,” he added.

“So now the lads are looking forward to playing at home. There are quite a few new players who haven’t been in a Bolton shirt at our home ground so we’re really looking forward to that.

“The last time we were here it was some game against Nottingham Forest, I’m sure the supporters, like me, are looking forward to seeing our home form get up and running.”
