WANDERERS have confirmed their friendly against Preston North End on Tuesday is OFF.

Senior players have indicated they are unwilling to play in the game, which had been scheduled at the County Ground, Leyland.

At least two more players – Erhun Oztumer and Josh Magennis – have handed in their notice and have now sought the help of the PFA to terminate their contract.

Just seven senior players remain from last season’s squad, two of which are goalkeepers, and none have been paid by the club in five months.

The club said this afternoon: “Bolton Wanderers can confirm they will not be taking part in the scheduled friendly fixture against Preston North End on Tuesday.

“The football club would like to apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.

“Wanderers supporters who have purchased tickets for this fixture are asked to contact the Ticket Office from 9am on Monday.”

A friendly at Chester was called off on Friday and senior players were not involved in the only official summer outing thus far, at Conference North York City.

Several appeared in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Saudi side Al-Ittihad last week but, as things stand, the July 27 game at Oldham Athletic as the only pre-season friendly remaining before the opening day of the season.

Accrington Stanley will now step in for Wanderers at Leyland on Tuesday night. The game kicks-off at 7.45pm.
