Bolton's famous pastie shop welcomed two international stars.

Marie Walsh of Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe was bowled over when Gary Neville and Amir Khan dropped by to record for the popular The Overlap podcast.

Former Manchester United legend, Gary, and now Sky Sports News pundit met up with local superstar Amir at the shop on Churchgate.

In the Overlap podcast Gary meets up with a guest and interviews them about their life and times.

He has travelled to London to talk with Frank Lampard and to Bootle to have a discussion with fellow pundit Jamie Carragher - and now to Bolton to meet Amir.

And for Gary Neville it was a trip to a familiar spot.

The shop is owned by Marie Walsh, whose late husband Robert’s family have run it since 1898.

And she has known the Neville family since before Gary and Phil were born. She saw Gary grow up  - for as a youngster he would come in to pick up some items to take to Bury Football Club for games where he would pass them on to celebrities at half time.

She said: “Amir had a cheesy pasty and Gary had a meat and potato one.

“They liked them because they were homemade.

“They wanted the recipe which I wouldn’t give them, it has been the same family recipe since 1898.”

She explained how it all came about.

She said: “They just rang us and said  he was doing a podcast.

“Gary has been coming here since he was a little boy.”

But for Mr Khan it was a first time to the store.

The Bolton born boxer revealed recently he was “definitely done” with boxing after a recent bout of injuries.

And more on his life and times as well as his upbringing will surely come out when the episode of The Overlap comes to the screen.
