A MUCH depleted Bolton Harriers junior team travelled to Wigan for the third round of the Junior League.

With athletes missing through injury and other commitments, the team performed admirably to claim fourth place and leave the team in second place overall behind leaders Preston.

The two stand-out athletes of the day were Frazer Jardine and Sam Gough who both took first place in their respective 800m.

Frazer won his 1,500m race, and Sam performed superbly to finish second in the 400m as well as winning the B triple jump.

They both also competed in the relay teams.

Josh Boaler won in the A triple jump while Paul Cryer claimed two second places in the long jump and the 200m.

Chris Burgess ran a new personal best to finish second in the 100m and the men's team finished second in the 4x400m relay.

The junior women's team performed excellently, beginning with Sian Pledger and Hannah Scholes both taking second place in their long jump competitions.

Hannah went on to finish second in the 100m in a season's best time and then threw a new personal best in the javelin.

Leanne Sheehy continued her fine form with a victory in the 3000m, Olivia McGreavy claimed second in the 100m hurdles, and Saffron Mackie and Rebecca Fordham finished third and first respectively in their triple jump competitions.

The relay team then finished an excellent third place in the 4x100m. The team travel to Cleckheaton for their final match on July 27, hoping to maintain their overall second place.

Bolton hosted the latest round of the Mid-Lancs League with more than 50 athletes turning out for the home side.

The men's team finished first by an impressive margin to leave them first overall in Division One, while the women's team finished second on the day and are second overall.

There were some excellent performances with Simon Bissell and John Nicholson claiming a double first and second in the shot putt and discus.

Callum Ashton had a fantastic day with three victories in the 800m, high jump and shot putt.

Ashley Marshall continued his fine form with a double victory in the long and high jump. Jodie Tomlinson-Weaver also had an excellent day claiming a first and a second.
