Bolton boxer Alex Murphy reckons his recent win against Joshua Ocampo was his “best “performance yet” – and is eager to get back in the ring as soon as possible.

Murphy beat Ocampo on points at the Toughsheet Community Stadium to extend his unbeaten record to nine fights.

“I was really pleased with the fight,” he told The Bolton News. “It was a great show to be on and a great platform, so I had to perform well.

“It was my best performance yet. I controlled the fight and it turned out to be a pretty comfortable win in the end, especially when it was a step up in opponent.

“It proves that I am improving all the time and my team were all happy. We move onto the next one now.”

The 22-year-old is still in the early stages of his career but believes he has already come a long way over the past year.

“I’m hoping my next fight will be in November,” Murphy explained. “I am buzzing I have got that to aim for and hopefully I can go 10-0 by the end of the year. It will put me in a good position for next year.

“The more active I am, the better I am going to get and the more I will improve. It gives me that opportunity to get in the gym, work on the things I need to work on and put it straight into practice.

“If I fight in November, it will be five fights this year so it has been very busy. But the improvement I have made, it is good to see.”

He added: “One thing that stood out at the start of my career was my defence and head movement. This year, it has come on leaps and bounds and it has shown in my last few fights.

“At the start, I was just focused on throwing, attacking and getting into a fight. Now we have started putting it into practice and it looks good.

“I am getting more experienced as well, which is good. Everything is going well.”
