WANDERERS (3-5-2).

JOEL COLEMAN…6.

Tended to play long, which took some getting used to, but as a deliberate ploy to avoid Barnsley’s traps in the middle of the park. Looked more confident.

GETHIN JONES…6.5.

Really made inroads on the right once he had been pushed to wing-back and that might be food for thought if Dacres-Cogley missed any great length of time.

RICARDO SANTOS…6.

McAtee got around him once just after half time but otherwise the captain was solid, using his pace and strength to his advantage.

EOIN TOAL…6.5.

Strong performance in what is turning out to be a good week for the Northern Irishman. Managed to renew acquaintances with Cosgrove at the end, too.

JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…5.5.

Subbed with a foot injury after what had been a tough night to that point. The delay for treatment actually seemed to work in Bolton’s favour, though.

KYLE DEMPSEY…6.5.

Pick of the midfield bunch in the first half and the only one who really seemed to match Barnsley’s hustle. Worked some decent positions on the right side.

JOSH SHEEHAN…6.

Kicked from pillar to post once again but kept on taking the ball and trying to push Bolton forward. Will be delighted that the penalty miss was not costly.

GEORGE THOMASON…6.

An early yellow and a mistake for the goal – but deserves credit for turning it around completely and running the show after half time.

NAT OGBETA…5.5.

After such an encouraging performance against Cambridge this was a little untidy in possession.

VIC ADEBOYEJO…6.5.

Sparked off the revival with his goal and worked very hard to get Bolton going again. A confidence booster against his former employers.

AARON COLLINS…7.

Another step forward after Cambridge with some really intelligent work in the second half. Looked spent before the end – but starting to see the best of him.

Subs: Iredale 6.5, 52 (for Dacres-Cogley) – Blended in seamlessly on the left side.

Williams 6.5, 70 (for Ogbeta) – Magical moment for him after his injury return.

Maghoma 6, 70 (for Dempsey) – Looked up for it but should have scored!

Jerome 79 (for Adeboyejo), Bodvarsson 79 (for Collins) Not used: Forrester, Morley.

MAN OF THE MATCH – Aaron Collins.

Created one goal for Adeboyejo, went close himself, ran himself to a standstill and did as much as anyone to get Wanderers on top in the second half.

MOAN OF THE MATCH – Two risky passes presented two goals to Barnsley and could have been so costly. Got to be smarter than that.

MAGIC MOMENT – Ian Evatt’s celebrations in front of the away support. Been a tough couple of weeks for the Bolton boss, so he deserved a moment.

Barnsley (3-1-4-2): Roberts; De Gevigney, Pines, Earl; Connell; Williams, Phillips, Kane, Cadden; McAtee, Cole.

Subs: O’Keefe 68 (for Cadden), Grant 68 (for McAtee), Cotter 84 (for Phillips), Cosgrove 90+4 (for Cole) Not used: Killip, Russell, McCart.

Referee: James Bell 6/10 – Managed the game pretty well and got most of the big calls right. You do wonder if Thomason’s early challenge was a yellow card how more of the five fouls on Josh Sheehan were not punished the same way?
