Wanderers will put all transfer activity on hold until a replacement for Gary Megson is appointed.

The January transfer window opened yesterday but the club have confirmed that all prospective deals — including a loan offer for Real Madrid midfielder Guti — have been put on hold until the new man is in position.

Assistant manager Chris Evans, who was put in temporary charge alongside first team coach Steve Wigley, confirmed that all ins and outs would be put on hiatus for the time being.

“We have a well-defined scouting network, both domestic and European and we had targeted numerous options,” he said.

“Obviously, we have got to be respectful now that a new manager will be entering the football club, and he will have his own ideas.

“I think we have got to concentrate purely on the football right now.”

Evans is sure, however, that new faces are a must if Wanderers are to pull clear of the bottom three.

“I’m sure, as the previous manager thought, that the incoming manager will feel that we need freshening up in certain areas,” he said. “But right now we are only a day or so into the new change, so we’ll concentrate on the football.”

Evans and Wigley take charge for this afternoon’s third round FA Cup tie against League Two strugglers Lincoln City at the Reebok hoping Wanderers can achieve only their second win in 11 games.
