EAGLEY were denied the chance to go fourth in the Premier Division when they lost their second showdown in a week against likely tital rivals.

A week after beating runaway leaders Blackpool Wren Rovers 3-0, they dominated Coppull United who started the day in third and moved up to second with a 1-0 win.

Eagley, who would have climbed to third with a win, were thwarted by the post and a goalline clearance in the first half.

Coppull broke the deadlock 15 minutes from time with a shot which deflected off defender Phil Regan as he went to block.

Luke Killeen then hit the post as Eagley tried in vain to earn a point. Eagley travel to Thornton Cleveleys on Saturday.

A goal two minutes into injury time denied Tempest a victory over improving bottom club Dalton.

Dalton went ahead in the third minute when they capitalised on a poor defensive clearance.

Tempest settled, with impressive centre halves Craig Farnworth and man of the match Micky Hall providing a solid basis, and they hit back when Chris Swaby crossed for leading scorer Gary Barnes to headed back across goal to make it 1-1 at half time.

Tempest went ahead when the speedy Jamie Hylton beat three players and crossed for Danny Ashcroft to head home.

But it was ultimate disappointment for the visitors when Dalton took advantage of hesitancy at the back to level at the death.

Assistant manager Brian Hart said: “We paid for two lapses in concentration but I can’t knock the lads because they’ve been much more consistent. It was disappointing to lose a goal right at the end, and the way we did. It felt like two points lost rather than one gained. But we’ll go again.”

Tempest are fifth from bottom, one place and two points behind Tempest with a game in hand.

The Brook Street men paid for a disastrous opening 10 minutes when they conceded two goals.

They recovered and threatened to get back into the game, but lost another goal before half time.

Nicky Fisher reduced the arrears when he fired into the top corner, and Stoneclough staged a late rally when Barry Massey headed against the bar and Liam Ralph hit the post.

The First Division’s bottom club, Turton, showed further big improvement as they went down 2-0 at unbeaten leaders Burnley United.

The Edgworth men were unlucky not to open the scoring when striker Tom Gilbertson’s shot from just inside the penalty box hit the post and bounced to safety with the keeper stranded.

The home side took the lead from a long throw launched into the box, and doubled the lead midway through the second half with the help of a deflection and a narrow offside decision.

Kieran Sissons had Turton’s best chance when he was denied by quality goalkeeping in a one on one.

In Division Two, Bolton County prevented Furness Cavaliers from going second with a magnificent 8-2 home victory. Anthony Hough opened the scoring, Dean Hailwood scored two, and Mason McCelland, Tom Aspen, Jimmy Taylor, Steve Collier and Tom Hutchinson got the others.

County, who lost virtually an entire team in the summer and promoted a host of under-18s players, have been working on a pass and move game this season and it clicked to devastating effect on Saturday.

“Now it’s a case of keeping it going,” said manager Kevan Aspen. “But it was a great performance against a side which beat us three times last season.”

Ladybridge lost 4-0 at home to fourth-placed Todmorden Borough.
